In my third year of undergraduate study, our class traveled to Tokyo under the guidance of several professors to participate in a collaborative project with the Interaction Design Department at Shibaura Institute of Technology. Within a seven-day time frame, we co-developed an interactive installation design aimed at children’s facilities in public spaces.

Our team included members from China, Japan, Thailand, and Myanmar. During our discussions, we discovered that origami was a shared childhood memory among all of us, and we decided to take it as the conceptual starting point of the project.
Two students from Shibaura specialized in digital interaction systems, while I worked with three other teammates to design the interactive experience using light sensors and projection. Together, we created a prototype that responded to specific origami crane-shaped shadows cast under a rotating top. When the correct shadow was detected, a short animated film of the origami bird flying away would be projected — symbolizing a child’s journey from the comfort of home toward independence and self-growth.
